Prior to forming Masterson Investment Counsel, Michael Masterson served as Chief Investment Officer for the Goldman Sachs Trust Companies and the Goldman Sachs Philanthropy Fund, where he oversaw all aspects of fiduciary asset management. Mike has held Portfolio Manager roles with Brown Brothers Harriman, Bank of America, 1919 Investment Counsel, and Fifth Third Bank, providing him with extensive knowledge of investment evaluation, portfolio construction, and risk management. He offers highly customized investment advice and guidance to individuals, families, and institutions, while pursuing their objectives with thoughtful prudence. He applies his knowledge and insight gained from more than twenty-five years of investment experience to help clients with complex situations pursue their distinctive goals. Mike is adept in diversification strategies, down-side risk mitigation, asset allocation, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and faith-based investing.
Mike is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst® Institute, the Ohio Bar, and the New York Bar. He has served on the board of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company and as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business, where he has taught a graduate course in portfolio management.
Mike earned his B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, his M.B.A. in Finance and International Business from Wright State University, and his J.D. from the University of Baltimore. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation and the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CFTA) designation. He began his investment career in 1993.
